My Kind of Weather

Today’s quality workout was on the track.

After our warmup, we did drills and then got the assignment: 5×800. I told myself I was NOT going to repeat last Wednesday, where I positively ran all my repeats (meaning I added time to each, blech) and felt like shit in the process. Not a good combo.

Due to unfortunate circumstances, I found myself alone on the track at the end of my third repeat. My trusty workout partner, Cathy, had finally succumbed to the tummy bug that had been lurking around for the last few days; even the other group was done and gone. It was just me running and Coach Amy, watching and encouraging.

The fourth repeat felt hard. My time was fine, and I realized that it was a mental let-down; I missed my friend and all the company and slacked off.

Clearly, the task for the fifth repeat was to hold my mental focus. I kept reminding myself that this was MY KIND OF WEATHER and that I LOVE THE TRACK and I CAN RUN A 4:00 800. And lo and behold, there it was. Perfect.

I have a big ol’ shit eating grin on my face still. Life is good.
