Easing Back into the Groove

Today was great; Cathy and I took a jaunt around Lady Bird Lake trail today (the 10-mile loop). I felt a bit creaky and sluggish but it was so darn good to be doing a run.

There’s a difference between a tri schedule run and a run run. The runs in the tri schedule were relatively few and far between (at least to this die-hard runner), and I was always coming to them tired from some other workout OR getting ready to go to some other workout. Today was running just for pure pleasure. Nothing before, nothing afterwards, and good running all inbetween.

Even though we made sure to start early, it was hot and humid. I sucked down a ton of water. We both turned into fountains of sweat–Cathy even left a trail of sweat drops on the sidewalk as we walked back to our cars. My sunglasses kept steaming and fogging up so much I had to quit wearing them.

There is such a great feeling after a run like that. It’s a tired feeling but a good tired. It makes me hungry for more runs.

Tomorrow, the famly heads to Port Aransas. I’ll probably get a fun run on the beach on Friday, but that’ll be it as far as any working out goes until I get back in town Monday. The big challenge will be watching my food and alcohol intake!
