Today I visited with a friend that I really don’t get to spend enough time with. I took over some cupcakes and we sat at her house, looking out at her lovely yard, having tea and coffee, chatting and perusing cookbooks. I borrowed one of hers, and she took some recipes from mine. We also got all caught up on what was going on in our lives.
Being a Protective Soccer Mom
It’s been an all-around beautiful day. I took my boy back to the orthopedist this afternoon. He’s very happy because the verdict was that he can start practicing again with the brace on and…if he remains painfree…it’s possible he could play in the game on Saturday.
I recognize the protective mama bear in me, because I am not happy with him being out there. But it has been four weeks, he’s progressing nicely, and I have to back off some and trust all the folks who are actually working with him. I think the doctor supressed a smile when I said, “Well, what about things like slide tackles and getting hit?” His response was stuff happens, and he’ll just have to see how it goes. I did tell Boy Child that if I saw him NOT wearing his brace, I would run across the field and yell at him in front of the team. The thought of that embarrassment is surely enough to actually keep him in the brace — because he knows if I say it, I mean it.
His dad is out of town and when I told him I was thinking of going to the HCTR meeting tonight, my son actually said, “Aw, don’t go. Stay home with me.” WELL. How often does your 16-year-old say something like that? So I think I’ll skip the meeting.
I didn’t even try to run today, though I probably could’ve eked out a couple of miles. I’ve got to exercise the dog tomorrow, so I thought I’d “save up” my energy for something he’d like.
