I am amazed at how run down and fatigued I am.
My first coach (Andreas Soeffker, whom I put on a giant pedestal) used to say that every day you worked out sick was another five days out later on. I don’t know why I was so cavalier about running New York City Marathon with a cold. Seems like perhaps I got arrogant or simply careless, and when you underestimate the marathon, it teaches you a whopping big lesson.
My good friend Cathy is talking about some short distance work this spring. I think this may be a very smart move for me as well. She is the brains of the bunch, after all :o)
Anyway, I haven’t done a thing this week as per Coach Meredith’s instructions (thank you, Meredith, for the good talk the other day) and we’re going to converse about White Rock Marathon next week.
I hope to get my feet back under me soon.
Back to trails?
I am waiting for my original trail coach to come back to the trails… perhaps an appearance at Bandera? There is a great Jemez Mountain program coming up as well.
Distance trumps speed … and the beer tastes better in the woods with a bunch of trail runners.
Re: Back to trails?
Definitely back to trails, and you will without doubt see me at Bandera. I am thinking about just doing the 25K and seeing if I can do it faster than last year. I know–I swore last year I\’d never do the 25K again after how poorly supported it was, but I think I need to back off distance for a while, have some fun, and rest up.
We will see what plan Meredith and I come up with, but there WILL be trails!!
