I grew up with my nose in a book, developing a love for word craft of all sorts as I read. In my adult years, I’ve worked as an educator (high school teacher and running/triathlon coach), freelance writer, and editor. Now, I’m focused on the joy of marrying writing with my interest in health and wellness through this blog, Enjoying the Journey: Observations on the Fit Life.
I came to exercise later in life as a way to cope with family life, stress, and weight management and fell in love with long-distance running. I began writing when a coach suggested keeping a training diary as a way to connect with other athletes; after serving as editor in chief of a local fitness magazine for a few years, I picked my blog back up to continue my mission and passion for bringing the pleasures (and challenges) of living a healthy lifestyle to the greater public.
I believe that, to fully live life’s journey, it’s important to take on those things that spark a certain level of “what have I just done?” That sense of adventure, that fear in the pit of the stomach, and love of a challenge have led me to attempt a 100-mile trail race, complete an Ironman triathlon, take up boxing, and jump into public speaking. Who knows where life will lead? And won’t getting there be wonderful?
The mother of three grown — and delightful — children, wife to a supportive and long-suffering husband, I live in Austin, Texas, where you can find me working out with friends, eating good food, and still reading anything I can get my hands on.
