Journey with Me

I grew up with my nose in a book, developing a love for word craft of all sorts as I read. I’ve worked as an educator (high school teacher and running/triathlon coach), freelance writer, editor, and content strategist. Here, in  Enjoying the Journey: Observations on the Fit Life, I’m exploring and sharing what an adventurous, healthy, and joyous life can be.

I came to fitness as a way to cope with family life, stress, and weight management and fell in love with long-distance running. My coach suggested keeping a training diary as a way to connect with other athletes, so I started a blog. When my kids flew the nest, I went back to work full time–landing my dream job, serving as editor in chief of a local fitness magazine. When I left the 9-to-5 life, Enjoying the Journey was waiting. I picked up my blog and began exploring the pleasures (and challenges) of living a healthy, active lifestyle.

To fully live life’s journey, I believe you have to take on things that spark a certain level of “oh, crap; what have I done?” That fear in the pit of the stomach and love of challenge have led me to wonderful adventures: trying a 100-mile trail race, completing an Ironman triathlon, taking up boxing, and jumping into public speaking.

Who knows where life will lead next? And won’t getting there be wonderful?

I live in Austin, Texas, where you can find me working out with friends, eating good food, and still reading anything I can get my hands on.

Travel has become a passion. Whether it’s Nebraska (shown here) or a single-track Texas trail, I’m exploring.

  1. I\’m loving reading this journal! You are inspiring and fun and I am so glad I got to know you in person as well as through your writings.

  2. Just started my own blog and stumbled along yours while looking for people with similar interest (and also slightly torturing myself since I\’m injured and sidelined for a while, lol). Your blog (and/or journal) seems pretty kick ass! Am excited to read up on some past posts and see your new ones.
