My “Rocky II” (or Wilke Redoux)

Today was a big workout day.

First, I stopped by Nelo’s to get the bike computer checked out. Jeremiah was very kind and got it all back in working order. I LOVE the fact that Nelo’s opens at 7:30 a.m. and they have really treated me well every time I’ve gone in since I bought my bike.

Workout No.1: Run

Then, I bunnied on over to Cathy’s house so we could do our 6 x Wilke repeats. I was a bit out of sorts; I’d run late and the morning hadn’t gotten off to the best start, but I remembered last week and the need to be “in the moment.” So after our warm-up, I just concentrated on each repeat as it came (the first one needed to be sandbagged and then each one at or faster than the previous).

It was warm and sunny unlike last week, which was muggy but cloudy, and the sun is typically not my friend (tsk!  no pre-negatives!).

Wilke splits:
2:37
2:31
2:29     I was VERY happy with this progression!
2:24
2:21
2:16

Workout No. 2: Gym

After a cold cup of Nuun, it was time for strength training (workout #2) at the Town Lake YMCA (huh — should that now be the Ladybird Lake Y?). Cathy and I had fun calling each other “slacker” and whatnot as we hit the weight circuit. That done, I ate a banana and changed into my bike shorts.

Workout No. 3: Bike

And then it was time for workout #3…an easy 1 hour spin. Since I had the bike in the car, I was south, and it was a gorgeous day, I went over to the veloway. Turns out my good friend Corey drove up to ride with some friends as I was unloading. After I was done riding (OMG, it was a very windy day!), I sat and waited for my buddy to finish while I ate the sandwich I was smart enough to pack in case of starvation. We chatted for a bit and then I came home.

Whew. Even though I am avoiding sodas, I just treated myself to a victory Pepsi…and it tasted good.
