Heat 1: Leah 0

Today was awful. I was struggling before the sun came up and then, by mile 8, I was nauseous. My friend Lindsey was with me and we walked ran into the next aid station. To do 20, I needed to keep on and do a loop from White Rock to Great Northern to Foster and back down Shoal Creek. I was feeling worse, not better, so we decided to turn around there, which would make the run about 17 miles. I walked/ran as I could. My stomach got worse; I was to the point of wondering if I should make myself vomit to feel better. We got to Lake Austin, just about 3 miles from the finish, and I started to have GI issues and really feel yucky.  I sent Lindsey on her way, stopped in at the 7-11 for a Coke slushie in the hopes that cold and sugary would help, and basically walked it in from there. Miserable.

Talked to Coach Michael when I got in and he said to take tomorrow off and perhaps Monday, depending on how I feel.

I got in the car and cried.

I feel like crap.

  1. I got really really sick during my run last night, too, toward the end from being dumb about not taking nutrition.

It\’s so awful to have a run like this 🙁 I am sorry. This heat/humidity is so difficult, even the the most hardcore folks I know are struggling in it, I have decided that my workout goals in the heat are just surviving the damn heat, and not pushing pace or hills or anything else.

I hope you feel better soon!

    1. Thanks, and back at ya

I\’m sorry you had a bad run, too.

Yeah, what is it about this particular heat? Usually, I lose about 2-3 pounds over the course of a long run; yesterday, I lost 2 ounces shy of 5 pounds…and I\’d hydrated well PLUS I drank a ton on the run.

I\’m with you; I\’m going to just get through the next few workouts and not worry about anything but surviving!

  2. You\’re doing better than me, just by getting out there. I bailed on my 30 minute brick after the 54 mile bike ride Saturday. And Sunday I had no energy to run after working Sweet & Twisted. I don\’t know why it\’s so bad this year, but it just is. Know it\’s not you, and hang in there. Hugs.
