Baby Steps

I am definitely getting better, but this is going to be a long process if I’m going to do it right.

I’ve been walking more and more energetically over the last week. The really good news is that the idea of running is appealing again! I want the desire to be very strong before the actual activity. My body still doesn’t feel ready for that much work.

I don’t know how much of that is the recovery from mono and how much is changing the dosage of my thyroid medication. It doesn’t really matter–if it doesn’t feel right, I’m not doing it.

After reading some stuff online at letsrun.com, I now recognize an incident I had (the last time I rode my bike, which convinced me not to do Longhorn Half Ironman) was the results of too much thyroid medication. I had no idea…and didn’t go to my doctor, thinking that my training was bad or it was just a bad day.

The breathlessness, high heart rate, and dead feeling in my legs were all signs; my medication had only been increased 10 mg. due to a change in the brand that supposedly “wasn’t going to make a difference.” That was the old doc…my regular doc is the one who caught this and is working with me on adjusting the dosage.

So I’m off to walk the doggie here in a bit.
