Letting Go of the 50 Miler

Well, my 5-hour run out at McKinney Roughs on Saturday told me that I had to be smoking crack to think I would be well-enough prepared to do the 50-miler at Palo Duro Canyon in October. Miles on the bike do not in any way translate to the kind of miles on the trail I’d need to have under my belt to make that a positive scenario. So I’m dropping to the 50K at Palo Duro and having fun. I will have the necessary long runs for that for sure.

I was super pumped after my bike ride on Sunday. 51.8 miles–my longest ever! Aside from getting overheated in the last hour (which I think was largely due to being overheated on Saturday), it was very pleasant and I felt quite good. Excellent route and nice company.

And I successfully managed what (for me) were stressful intersections and traffic.

*  This really bugs me. I should never fart around and miss those weekday rides.

**  haha. This is what happens when you’re a trail runner with two long runs in the same week plus other “fun” runs. Don’t you wonder what that number would be if I were actually training for that 50 miler? I’m sure there’d be another 4 hours on top of that.

  1. Umm, a little perspective

11 hours of running in a week is pretty damn impressive. Don\’t be down on yourself about not doing the 50 miler – you\’re definitely getting fit!
